“The Rapture of the Nerds”

Cory Doctorow’s new novel. His Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom is one of my favorite sci-fi novels of all time. The new one, however, is kind of agonizing and so I have stopped reading it. Too cheeky and techno-babbly, and frankly not all that interesting. Should I keep going?

Everyone else: do not miss Down and Out. The story of a future man defending the “greatest artistic achievement of the long-ago twentieth century”, Disneyland, from newfangled change, as he slowly loses his grip on sanity. Absurd, but also absurdly good.

  1. I went to Amazon.com to check out Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, based on this post. I was surprised and a bit annoyed to find such a forward-looking book wasn’t available on kindle.

Turns out I should have had more faith. Not only is it available on kindle, Doctorow is giving it away on basically all e-book formats for free, just not through Amazon.com’s site.
