JMP season

I’ve been meaning to do this for weeks. A few job market papers that caught my eye:

1. Why do we diversify our charitable giving?

2. What did railroad investment do for Indian development?

3. Why are developing country fiscal policies so procyclical?

4. Just how bad is internal displacement?

  1. I feel so bad for people on the job market this year. I’ve seen a lot of packets that look fabulous, but a lot of jobs seem to be disappearing.

  2. The Donaldson paper also caught my eye. I went through it this weekend and really liked it. But one issue I had, where in the body of the paper is he finding that ignoring G.E. externalities biases infrastructure effects by 20 percent? I’m not finding this result, and I’ve skimmed the paper several times. I also liked the paper from Atkin (Princeton) on how habit formation in food consumption matters for trade liberalization, though I confess I don’t know as much about nutrition as I do about trade costs.
