Internet country codes of the world

There’s more to the Internet, it seems, than “.com”. There are more than 260 top level domains in use around the world, most of which are country codes like “.in” (for India) or “.cn” (China). This map charts country codes by popularity and location. $30 a piece.

  1. Not sure, but it seems that the size of the country codes corresponds to population size, not popularity of the domain. For example, according to Verisign http://www.verisign.com/static/042726.pdf the most popular ccTLD is .de followed by .uk and .cn. Whats interesting is that the french domain .fr is much less popular than even the Swiss or Dutch ccTLD, mostly due to a relatively expensive and bureaucratic registration procedure.
