All strike me as important new papers in the political economy of development (and also conflict).
- Democracy reduces ethnic favoritism in Kenya
- The nondemocratic hangover faced by new democracies: local officials
- A theory of warfare using network analysis (applied to the “Great War of Africa”)
- Poverty rises crime rates in India (you’d be surprised how little prior evidence there is for this claim)
- Is political power centralized and personalized in Africa? The “no” argument
