I advise Yale graduate students in economics, political science and international relations. If your are interested in international development, developing country politics, civil war and violence, causal inference, or survey methods, then I might be a good fit as an advisor or committee member. You should contact me or come by office hours to discuss.
Warnings? Well, I push my graduate students to beef up their technical skills in statistics or formal theory. These are skills it is difficult to acquire out of school, and a smart investment before graduation (and your slow decline, with the rest of us, into obsolescence).
Also, I have a number of past posts that current and aspiring grad students may find helpful:
- How to get a PhD and save the world
- Moving from RA to co-author
- Field research advice: the quantitative sort and special insights for research in conflict zones
- Asking for a letter of recommendation
- Job market advice
