  1. I already got fed up when CNN e-mailed me several “breaking news” alerts on the DUI arrest of a 19-year old teenager. That’s not what I need a news channel for.

The sad thing is that there would be plenty of interesting stories to report on from the US criminal justice system. But again, most media companies have shown that they aren’t interested in anything that requires actual research: http://andreasmoser.wordpress.com/2014/01/25/justin-bieber/

  2. ssolen – Re Starbucks: Economists hate gift cards. Why give someone a gift card when you could just give them money? Money is pareto better. And that’s not just theoretical. Hundreds of millions of unused gift cards money goes to waste (or rather to corporate profits).

  3. I agree with 2, 3 and 4. Number 1 poses a bit of a dilemma for me, though. As an Ethiopian, it sounds like a good news to me. Countries like Costa Rica, Honduras, Colombia, Kenya, Indonesia stand to benefit from more sales of coffee, don’t they? Or am I missing something?
