Want to work on a research project in Addis?

I am presently looking for a Project Coordinator in Ethiopia–someone to run the day-to-day operations of a randomized evaluation of factory labor. The job description and application instructions are here.

The typical profile is someone with an MA, prior experience working in the field (preferably research-related), and sophisticated stats and STATA experience. A two-year commitment is required.

If you don’t think you meet the requirements, I may be hiring a more junior staffer in Liberia. A stats background is still needed, but applicants usually have just a BA, and may not have prior field experience. Look for that advertisement soon.

P.S. I don’t do the initial screening, so please apply through regular channels rather than e-mail me.

  1. “One intervention will involve provision of factory jobs through a partner local venture capital firm…”

We talked about this briefly, but just to clarify, if you can prove that people do better through access to factory jobs (with subsidies, tax breaks to VCs?) than they do with microfinance and other traditional aid tools, then the implication is that aid should go toward finding ways to support medium and large firms?

    You go, boy.

But what’s the difference between the approach you’re conceptualizing and say, the Free Zone approach? haven’t the development effects of Free Zones been evaluated?
