Too afraid to laugh

The NY Times writes about the political powerhouse that is The Daily Show:

When Americans were asked in a 2007 poll by the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press to name the journalist they most admired, Mr. Stewart, the fake news anchor, came in at No. 4, tied with the real news anchors Brian Williams and Tom Brokaw of NBC, Dan Rather of CBS and Anderson Cooper of CNN. And a study this year from the center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism concluded that “ ‘The Daily Show’ is clearly impacting American dialogue” and “getting people to think critically about the public square.”

Last week I noted my blog traffic goes up when I don’t post. But fake news seems to sell as well. As an alternative, maybe I’ll follow Stewart and bring you “all the news stories — first … before it’s even true.” It’s like Modern Jackass plus.

  1. By what standard is it ‘fake’ news. You know, that moniker has been kicked around for so long, that few people seem to have noticed that it isn’t really true. Over-the-top news sure, but not fake. A classic example was the ‘debate’ they held between candidate Bush and president Bush, who completely contradicted himself. There was nothing fake about it, humourous, but not fake…of course…as someone who thinks that poeple who follow the ‘traditional’ media are comically uninformed, I don’t take umbrage at their shots, which effectively is what they do when they claim it is fake news…the longer they stick their head in the sand, the quicker they loose all relevancy for the under 50…or is it 60…or perhaps 70 crowd…which suits me just fine…so wait…scratch this whole post…it is fake…
