Bush pilots, ex-coms, coup plotters, oh my!

I’m just back from two days in the field–a visit to an inspiring ex-combatant reintegration program–and I’m off to the north for four or five days early tomorrow morning. My first helicopter ride. I’ve been told to expect my pilot is a dodgy Ukrainian chain smoker.

Ah, bush pilots. The world would be so boring and colorless without you. The excitement, sadly, is dampened for a motion-sickness prone man like myself. I’m told that rainy season + helicopter = upchuck.

I have lots to write (I spent hours talking with Charles Taylor’s foster brother today, who was also a coup plotter against former President Doe) but no time to write it. But UN flights are famously unpredictable, and so I assume I will have hours on the tarmac tomorrow (waiting for said dodgy Ukrainian) to draft ever so thoughtful and clever blog posts.
