The Worst Places to Be a Woman

FP ranks nations by gender equality and region. The list of the worst: Haiti, Yemen, Sierra Leone, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Moldova.

They forgot one place: the Fortune 500. That group includes just 12 female CEOs, or about 2 percent. Of course, that number is improving, going up by one female CEO each year for the past few years. So we should hit the 50 percent mark by 2246.

Update: You probably don’t want to be an Indian air hostess either

  1. Actually, wouldn’t women in the US be worse off than women in Haiti, since Haiti has had a woman as president.

  2. What are you thinking? Using the same logic, the USA should be on the list too, since there never has been a woman president or vice president. So women in the USA are as bad off as the women in Haiti? I am sure that in some cases women are OK with being senior vice president of something or other at a fortune 500 company. And they might even be somewhat better off than the women in Moldava.
