It’s a small, small, small, small world

Last week I blogged on vacation, from Morocco’s ancient imperial city of Fes. A couple of days later I received the following e-mail:

I was catching up on my google reader this morning and read that you are traveling in Morocco. I was wondering if by chance you were in an internet cafe in Fes a couple of days ago? I thought I saw someone who looked like you, according to your website. I was sick, as was my husband. One lady gave me some medicine in the cafe. If it was you, you were sitting next me and gave some advice.

Only two words suit such a situation: Holy Moly!

The world just became a lot smaller in my view. Running into a blog reader in Fes?

  1. I was in a lounge at a guest house in Dar es Salaam last summer, tapping frantically away on my laptop when a girl sitting across the room said, “Jen? Jen Brea?”

She introduced herself to me and said she read Africabeat. I too had an, “oh my God the world is so small moment”–and felt a little awkward about it–until she explained that she was in Tanzania doing research and had chosen that guest house because I had written a favorable post about staying there the last time I blew through Dar.

I never cease to be amazed at how blogging can make the world a *much* smaller place.
