From a friend in the Berkeley economics program, Owen Ozier:
I don’t know if you are following the Kenya election, but a fellow econ student named [M.B.] is currently in Eldoret, and has been following things there. He is sending me updates as things happen; I posted his elections stuff online here.
It seems like a bunch of violence may also be starting – he just now sent me texts saying * riots in kibera, nairobi, kisumu and eastlands * police station in kisumu about to be stormed * police are beating people, but crowd is huge * there is a reporter on tv relaying the events as they happen. says there is a huge crowd marching toward the central police station, and lorries full of police waiting for them
there * 10 people reported dead in kisii * no ambassadors at the inauguration ceremony * et cetera.
What a heartwrenching outcome and day.

Thanks Chris! Very informative. I hope your contact is safe. It’s difficult to get up to date information due to the government’s blackout of media so I really appreciate your blog.
