As such, he is also the president of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, and formal leader of Nigeria’s 70 million Muslims, roughly 50 percent of the nation’s population. He came to the throne in November 2006, having served 31 years in the Nigerian military.

The event, “Islam and Development in Africa: A Nigerian Perspective,” has discussant John Paden of GMU and is moderated by Carol Lancaster of CGD. Sign up here.

Tyler Cowen is an economist and co-editor of one of the most popular economis blogs, Marginal Revolution. He is speaking at the Cato Institute (also this Thursday, fortunately at a different time) about his new book, Discover Your Inner Economist. Event details and registration are here. You can also get the webcast from that event at the same address.
