  1. I like #4 and find the general point to be convincing, but I also imagine that any medium that caters to a specific audience (in this case children) will use words specific to that audience and which are therefore less common across language generally. So “rarer” for children isn’t necessarily “harder” and won’t necessarily carry over to the most useful / impressive / thoughtful words in adult communication.
