Indeed. In a small town in Egypt, where most of the foreigners are Chinese, my wife (who doesn’t look in the least bit Chinese) has been asked if she’s Chinese.
Happens all the time in Addis too.
when out for my evening cycle in Dar es Salaam this week, I was not surprised by children calling out “MCHINA!”, But “KOREA!” took me by surprise.
How funny! I am Chinese, but when I was in Tunis a couple weeks ago, I got “Eskimo”!
