The World Cup at the World Bank

I’m visiting the Bank today. My evidence is mainly hearsay, since it’s been nonstop meetings, but it seems that managers have adopted the “if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” philosophy. Large screens have been put up in several buildings, the games play in conference rooms, and emails apparently went around advising managers to excuse country nationals from their country’s important games.

I find all this strangely unobjectionable.

I would have loved to see the Ghana game. And I was even in the Africa building….

  1. Was the email giving permission sent as a twitter message this time.
As suspected JKIA has more development type books than ORT. However they are very pricey at the former so left on the shelves. Bottom Billion was $31 so you would need to be in the top one per cent to be able to afford it. There were few if any with acacia tree covers so the message seems to be getting through but so far no progress can be reported on the introduction of baobab covers.

  2. In New York, games are being shown in the UNICEF cafeteria. No policy on excusing people from their respective national games has gone out, though.

  3. I love that people are excused during their national team’s games! Do that apply to the UEFA and African Cup too? :)
As for the Ghana match – good one today. 1-nil Germany, but both qualify for next round. Ghana is playing the USA, I reckon.
