What if states, like congressional districts, changed with population size?

Via James Fallows, who writes:

It’s based on a division of the country into 50 state units with more-or-less equal population — 5 to 6 million apiece — and preserving existing boundaries where possible.

  1. Chris, no way that my beloved rural Northwest Ohio is going to share a state with urban Cleveland! (Oops, I forgot we already do.)

  2. What about Alaska and Hawaii? And, would this imply that people in the District of Columbia would get a vote?
